A Dance without Dance (2015) Installation

TEXT

As part of DESTE Prize 2015 Maria Hassabi created an installation, loosely based on PLASTIC while removing the most crucial element of the work: the presence of performers. In the gallery space a “dancer’s manual” is placed on the floor that instructs the visitors to follow a set choreography that takes place in the gallery’s space and it’s synched with the lighting design and sound arrangement. The instructed choreography ends with the position of “NANCY”, a human-scale sculpture placed by the entrance of the Cycladic Museum.
